Verify carbon credits

What this page helps you do

Verify carbon credits: learn how GreenTonne checks program and registry data, methodology, verification reports, seller authority, inventory and quality.

Carbon Credit Verification Workflow

1. Program and registry check

Confirm that the project and units appear in the stated program and registry and that identifiers match the seller submission.

2. Methodology and verification check

Record the methodology and version, monitoring period, verification report and approved validation or verification body.

3. Ownership and inventory check

Require evidence that the seller controls the offered units and reconcile listed volume against transfers, reservations and retirements.

4. Quality information review

Present material information on additionality, quantification, permanence or reversal risk, leakage, safeguards and co-benefits without turning registry status into a blanket quality claim.

5. Ongoing monitoring

Suspend or update listings when public status, available quantity or material project information changes.

What Verification Does and Does Not Mean

It supports provenance

Verification helps connect a listed unit to a project, methodology, monitoring period, issuance record and current lifecycle status.

It is not a promise of identical quality

Credits from the same program can use different methodologies and carry different risks.

Marketplace review is separate

GreenTonne listing checks do not replace validation, verification, program review or buyer due diligence.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who independently verifies a carbon project?

An approved validation and verification body assesses project design and monitored results under the applicable program rules. The marketplace does not replace that independent work.

Can a listing be suspended after approval?

Yes. Inventory, ownership, program status, methodology status or material project information can change and may require an update or suspension.

Does GreenTonne give investment advice?

No. Listing and quality information support environmental-commodity due diligence and do not constitute financial, legal, tax or investment advice.
